Catching a concert at sunset is one of summer’s most magical experiences. Here in Maine, you don’t have to look far to find a summer concert series happening near you. The beat goes on with at least one series every night of the week, and most of them are free.

Concerts are free unless otherwise noted.

One Time Concerts

The Bangor Band

The oldest continuous community band in New England presents free concerts in the Bangor area. For dates: www.bangorband.org.

Flash in the Pans

This community-based steel drum band based in Blue Hill is performing donate-what-you-can benefit concerts for local nonprofits across Downeast Maine. Performances are Mondays, May 26 to Sept. 7, 7:30–9 p.m. For details: flashinthepans.org.

Maine Pops Concert Band

The Maine Pops Concert Band is performing at the Robert Browne Hall Day Music Festival at Westbrook Community Center, Westbrook (July 27, 9 a.m.), Heseltine Park, Woodfords Corner Community, Portland (July 15, 7 p.m.), St. David’s Episcopal Church, Kennebunk (July 22, 7 p.m.), Bath Library Park Gazebo, Bath (Aug. 7, 6:30 p.m.) and Scarborough Summerfest, Scarborough (Aug. 21, 6 p.m.). Three of Maine Pops’ nine active small ensembles also have separate performances: The Harbor Brass Quintet will play at morning worship at St. Nicholas Episcopal Church, Scarborough (June 27, 9:30 a.m.). The Beach Street Big Band will play at the Yarmouth Clam Festival, Yarmouth (July 19, 11:30 a.m.) and at Jordan Hall in Ocean Park (July 29, 7 p.m.). The Polished Brass Ensemble will play at Camp Timanous Beach in Raymond (Aug. 26, 6 p.m.). For more: www.mainepops.org.
